NIREUS Aquaculture S.A.

NIREUS was founded on Chios island in 1988 and today is the leading company in the production and trade of Mediterranean aquaculture. It has an annual production of:

  • 30,000 tonnes of the four main farmed marine fish species (gilthead sea bream, European sea bass, meagre- and common red sea bream

  • 120 million juveniles

  • 75,000 tonnes of fish feed

annually, at its own facilities in Greece and Spain.

It also has an R&D centre where, since 2004, it has run a genetic selection programme for sea bream and sea bass. All activities are certified by:

  • Quality Assurance System ISO 9001:2015

  • Food Safety System EN ISO 22000:2005

  • Environmental Management System EN ISO 14001:2004

  • GLOBARG.A.P.® version 5.0 July 15.

A strategic goal for sustainable and cost-effective fish feed is the use of legumes produced in the EU and especially on Greek soil as an alternative to marine proteins replacement. The use of legumes in fish feed is steadily increasing, as pulses have become inevitable in fish feed formulations.
